Description
Lubricants & Greases: as a thickener, viscosity modifier, or additive for enhanced stability.
Adhesives & Sealants: tackifier, to improve adhesion and flexibility.
Oil Additives / Dispersants: in engine oils, fuel detergents, etc
Cosmetics & Personal Care: used as film formers, gloss agents, and to improve texture / application of creams, lip glosses etc.
Hydraulic / Gear Oils, Metal Working Fluids: helps in viscosity indexing, reducing oil evaporation & improving service life.
Sealant / Coating / Rubber applications, where flexibility, adhesion, and weather resistance are required.
Advantages & Limitations
Advantages:
Very good thermal and oxidative stability.
Resistant to moisture, non-volatile (won’t evaporate under normal conditions).
Compatible with many additives and base oils. Good shear stability.
Limitations:
Being synthetic polymer, its cost is higher than some simpler oils / resins.
Pour point is modest (can get stiff / viscous at lower temps).
Needs correct handling (avoid high heat, contamination).
